Hull City earned their third straight Championship victory with a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers, as Cody Drameh and Liam Millar both netted their first goals for the club.
Drameh’s stunning strike from outside the box opened the scoring, and Chris Bedia doubled the Tigers’ lead before QPR pulled one back with a Nicolas Madsen penalty. Millar then restored the two-goal cushion in the second half, sealing another impressive win for the Tigers in a match full of action and drama.
The game began with a slight delay due to an issue with the net, and QPR quickly took the initiative. Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur was kept busy in the opening exchanges, denying both Sam Field’s volley and a close-range header from Lucas Anderson. Koki Saito also tried his luck with a slaloming run and a low shot towards the corner, but Pandur was once again equal to the challenge, keeping the Tigers level through a tough opening spell.
After withstanding the early pressure, Hull began to settle and took the lead against the run of play. A short corner routine allowed Drameh to pounce on a loose ball at the edge of the area, and the full-back unleashed a perfectly struck shot that flew into the bottom corner. This marked his first goal for the club and gave Hull a much-needed boost after QPR’s early dominance.
Hull doubled their advantage 11 minutes later, thanks to some tenacious play from Simons and Drameh. A cross from Lewie Coyle found Chris Bedia unmarked in the box, and the forward had the easiest of finishes to tap the ball home, making it 2-0 to the Tigers.
However, just before half-time, QPR were gifted a lifeline. Coyle was penalised for handball following a free kick from Anderson, and Madsen stepped up to convert the resulting penalty with authority, blasting the ball in off the bar to make it 2-1 at the break.
The second half saw QPR come out strongly, with Saito again involved in their best moments. His cross found Zan Celar, who headed wide, and later Saito’s curling shot struck the outside of the post, nearly levelling the score. Despite this, Hull’s defence, led by the experienced Sean McLoughlin on his 100th league appearance for the club, held firm.
Hull responded by making tactical changes, with Óscar Zambrano and Marvin Mehlem coming on for Slater and Kasey Palmer to regain control of the midfield. These changes helped stabilise Hull, and they soon regained their two-goal advantage. In the 71st minute, Millar, who had been a threat throughout, drove into the box and saw his initial effort blocked. However, he quickly reacted to the rebound, slotting his second shot past QPR keeper Paul Nardi to make it 3-1 and secure the points.
Hull could have added a fourth late on, as both Coyle and Belloumi came close with opportunities, but QPR’s Nardi made several crucial saves to keep the scoreline respectable. The Tigers continued to push forward, with Belloumi and substitute Mason Burstow both denied in the final moments of the match.
In the end, Hull’s solid defensive display and clinical finishing secured a well-earned victory. The win extends Hull’s fine run of form and keeps them climbing the Championship table after a tough start to the season. With Sean McLoughlin celebrating a milestone appearance and both Drameh and Millar making their mark, Hull City’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
As for QPR, they’re hovering around the drop zone once again, with just seven points from eight matches. They’re 20th, but the three teams immediately below them all have games in hand which, if won, would push Martin Cifuentes’ outfit into the bottom three.
