MK Dons have agreed a deal to appoint Crawley Town manager Scott Lindsey as their new boss, according to Football Insider.
The Buckinghamshire outfit are looking for a new man in the dugout after the departure of previous manager Mike Williamson. The 38-year-old left the club last week to take the managerial role at League Two rivals Carlisle United, who sacked club legend Paul Simpson after a poor start to the season.
The Dons now look to have found the man to replace Williamson at the helm at Stadium MK. 52-year-old Lindsey has reportedly reached a full agreement to make the switch down a division from Crawley and will take charge of his new club immediately.
Lindsey arrives at the club having built up good pedigree throughout a managerial career which has taken off in recent years. Following a non-league playing career, which included a spell as caretaker manager at Lincoln City, he was appointed manager at Kent club Chatham Town in 2019. After two years, he was appointed to his first EFL job by Swindon Town, where he spent six months before moving to his current club.
It’s at Broadfield Stadium where Lindsey has caught the eye and established himself as one of the most highly-rated coaches in the EFL. In the 2023-24 season he masterminded Crawley to promotion via the play-offs in a season where many considered them favourites to go down, and has continued that form in the third tier. The Red Devils find themselves comfortably mid-table after a difficult transfer window and look to be defying predictions that they will return to League Two instantly.
MK Dons fans will be hoping Lindsey can transfer his recent success to his potential new club, who have struggled so far this term. They currently lie 17th in League Two and will be hoping for a turnaround soon, with Lindsey clearly the man the board trust to inspire that upturn in form.
Writer’s View
This is certainly a coup for MK Dons. Lindsey has proven himself in his short time in League One thus far and is even better suited to the division below. His achievements with Crawley and ability to defy expectations, as well as turn teams around completely, look to be what MK Dons need as they lie in the bottom half of the table after a disappointing start. As for Crawley, this news will be a massive blow to their chances. Lindsey has performed wonders for them and it remains to be seen whether another manager can get the same tune out of them or whether they’ll take a downward turn.
