Morecambe manager Derek Adams believes his side will give a team ‘a good roasting’, despite their dreadful start to the season.
Adams rejoined the Shrimps in June after only leaving the club last November to take up the position at Ross County in the Scottish Premiership. His time north of the border was short lived though and he resigned after just 12 games in charge.
The Lancashire outfit were left trailing in the transfer window as they were hit with an embargo which prevented them from making any signings. However, that was lifted in July and they almost immediately announced 15 new arrivals.
This obviously disrupted Morecambe’s pre-season, leading many to tip the club for relegation from League Two this season. Those early predictions look to have some legs following their dreadful start to the campaign, where they have lost all five of their opening five fixtures.
It is the manner of those defeats which have given Adams some hope though. Despite failing to score this far, all five losses have come by a solitary goal. This has led to the 49-year-old stating that his side need some luck but when it does arrive, they will dish out a hammering:
“I have managed teams in more than 700 games and I know this team is a good side,” he told the Lancaster Guardian.
“They work hard. They can run and they can play and the time will change and, when it does, I think we will go on a really good run.
“We need to make the right choices at the right time in certain areas but, and I keep on saying it, we just need a break which eventually we will get and, when we do, I think we will give a team a good roasting.
“The players keep on going, You can see their fight and their determination and the supporters can see the effort they are all putting in.
“As strange as it seems, we are six points off 14th place and it is going to be a league where teams go on runs and catch those above them.
“I am sure we will be one of the teams that catches others too.”

Morecambe were always going to struggle at the start of this season. They had less time to prepare for their opening game plus had to bed in an almost entirely different first team squad. The players would always need time to gel.
On paper, five defeats from five is as bad as it can get and they will know that they really need to start picking up points soon. However, they haven’t taken a big beating in any of their games and will feel that they aren’t far off. They welcome Colchester United to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium at the weekend and Derek Adams will be confident that his team can pick up at least a point.
