Huddersfield Town are set to sign multiple time promotion winner Freddie Ladapo following his release from Ipswich Town, according to Football Insider.
The Terriers have made a decent start to life in League One following their relegation from the Championship last season. Having won their opening three league games, they succumbed to their first defeat against Rotherham United last time out. That reverse was also sandwiched between successive cup losses against Walsall in the Carabao Cup and Doncaster Rovers in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
They do remain one of the favourites to secure promotion though. They made good additions to their squad throughout the summer, including the likes of Lasse Sorensen, Antony Evans and Herbie Kane.
With the transfer window now closed, only free agents can be brought in. However, manager Michael Duff appears willing to take advantage of Freddie Ladapo’s situation.
The 31-year-old left Ipswich by mutual consent at the end of last month, with the club only able to name 25 players in their Premier League squad. Joining from Rotherham United in 2022, he played a key role in the Tractor Boys’ promotion from League One, scoring 21 goals in all competitions. The striker was then forced to play a bit-part role as Kieran McKenna’s side embarked on their Championship campaign, although he did make 17 league appearances during the first half of the season.
With the majority of his game time coming from the bench, a drop back down to the third tier materialised in the way of a loan move to Charlton Athletic in January. The departure of Michael Appleton hampered his game time somewhat, and he scored just the once before returning to Ipswich in the summer.
It looks as if his time without a club will be a short one though. It is claimed that the former Plymouth Argyle man will return to League One with Huddersfield and is currently undergoing a medical before completing the move.

With Ladapo’s past record, there was always going to be interest from League One. He is a player who has earned promotion out of the division on three separate occasions, twice with Rotherham and once with Ipswich. That’s the kind of experience that money can’t buy, especially at this level.
Whilst his time at Charlton wasn’t as fruitful as his previous stints in the third tier, he is a proven goalscorer that averages just over a goal every three games in League One. It’s a risk-free transfer for Huddersfield, who are clearly keen to bolster their attacking options before they return to action against Bolton Wanderers this weekend.
