Following Millwall’s EFL Cup loss to Leyton Orient last Tuesday, Harris hinted that the club was considering a loan deal for the Irish U21 international. Emakhu, featured in both of Millwall’s EFL Cup games this season, also appeared late in Saturday’s 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday. Since his arrival from Shamrock Rovers in January 2023, the 20-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Lions, scoring once.
A loan move was in the works for Emakhu, contingent on Millwall securing a replacement. Fulham’s Martial Godo was identified as a potential target. However, Godo didn’t move to the Den, which meant Emakhu also stayed put, for now.
“We spoke openly about Aidomo last Tuesday evening and discussed a development plan. I want my players to be happy. I care about them,” said Harris, who was enraged by the fringe players following his side’s cup exit on Tuesday.
“Aidomo is a player with a bright future, and we really enjoy working with him. He was close to going out on loan, but it didn’t happen in the end, so he comes back to us. We’re looking forward to helping him continue his development.”
Millwall finally got their season up and running this weekend with a convincing 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday after a tough opening few fixtures for Harris. The 47-year-old was a popular player for the Lions, but that good credit appeared to be in short supply as he struggled through the post-match interview after the Orient defeat.
As for Emakhu, he’s a player that the fans like to see, and while he’s more potential than proven article right now, they’ll likely be delighted that he’s remained a part of the South London outfit’s squad for now.

Perhaps Harris felt more confident revealing this after a 3-0 win, but it’s not news many fans would have welcomed if they hadn’t just won a game. The youngster was hung out to dry a little by Harris after the cup defeat, and the reaction on social media was not particularly warm to the former Gillingham and Cambridge boss’s reaction.
However, a loan would have been good for the player’s development. Assuming he was going to get minutes in League One, he would have benefitted from senior football and perhaps forced his way into Harris’s plans in January. That is, of course, if Harris makes it to January.
