Leyton Orient are looking to complete a late move in the transfer window, sizing up a move for Jack Currie.
The 22-year-old joined Oxford United this summer, following the end of his contract at AFC Wimbledon. He made 45 appearances for Johnnie Jackson’s side last season as they finished 10th place.
However, it has been a tough time for the left-back at the Kassam Stadium, having failed to be included in any of Des Buckingham’s squads this season. Joseph Bennett has started in all three of The U’s Championship games this season.
According to Edmund Brack of the South London Press, Leyton Orient are now interested in the player. Richie Wellens’ side have lost every game of their League One season, but have found joy in the EFL Cup with wins over Newport County and Millwall.
Defence has been a key recruitment area over the past 24 hours, with rumours from Peter O’Rourke suggesting that The O’s were in a battle with Bradford City and Reading for Everton centre-back Reece Welch. The 20-year-old had previously played in the EFL with Forest Green Rovers, making 17 appearances.
Only Wigan Athletic‘s Sean Clare has been a defensive incoming at Brisbane Road this summer, with two goalkeepers arriving on loan. Middlesbrough‘s Zach Hemming has been joined by Tottenham Hotspur’s Josh Keeley, who was their first deadline day signing.
Orient face the only other club without a point in League One this weekend as they travel to Shrewsbury Town. After their EFL Trophy game against Arsenal on Tuesday, Wellens’ side face a ten-day break thanks to international callups postponing the game against Peterborough United.

Jack Currie was one of Wimbledon’s best performers last season and deserved a move up in the EFL hierarchy. Oxford rightly took a risk on a young talent but it seems that Des Buckingham has not been impressed and is now sanctioning a move away on deadline day. Perhaps a jump straight to the Championship was too far, too soon, and moving to an established League One club like Leyton Orient.
It has been a difficult start to their second season back in the third tier. Wellens is one of the better managers in this division and will have the confidence of the fans to get their season back on track. playing Shrewsbury is a perfect chance to do that and will fancy their chances against another team without a point this season.
