According to the Football Insider, Championship side Watford have opened talks to sign Udinese striker Vivaldo Semedo.
The Hornets are aiming to strike a deal with their sister club for the Portuguese striker. The Italian Pozzo Family own both Watford and Udinese, and both clubs have been doing business with one another multiple times since 2012.
The Portuguese under-19 international spent the latter stage of last season on loan in the Netherlands, with Eredivisie club FC Volendam. He featured 13 times in all competitions, scoring one goal. Semedo made his debut in the Serie A and has since gone on to make another five additional appearances. However, the 19-year-old has mainly featured for Udinese Primavera, the youth team of Udinese Calcio. He has quadrupled his six appearances in Serie A, so far making 24 appearances and scoring four goals, many of which have come in the Primavera 1, Italy’s first-tier youth division.
With the teenager’s contract running out next summer, the Italian Serie A side believe that they need to cash in on the player before he can walk on a free. Their London-based sister club now look to profit, with manager Tom Cleverley looking to add last-minute additions before the window slams shut on the 30th of August. The Hornets are continuing their efforts to strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline, with Cleverley focused on securing a striker.
It has been a relatively relaxed summer on the transfer front for the Hornets, with seven new players coming through the door at Vicarage Road. Except for two experienced players, the majority of Watford’s signings have been young talent. Trio Kayky Almedia, Rocco Vata and Mamadou Doumbia are all teenagers themselves, with Cleverley looking more towards the youth.
The yellow and blacks have won all three opening games so far, with wins against Millwall and Stoke City in the Championship, and winning emphatically against League Two side MK Dons in the Carabao Cup. It’s fair to say Watford have not struggled on the goal-scoring front so far, netting 11 goals in three games.

With the amount of goals Watford have scored so far, it is almost surprising that they are still looking to bring in a striker before the deadline. Although this is Cleverley’s first full season in charge at Vicarage Road, he is already preparing for the future, implying that for once the Watford hierarchy are fully backing one manager, rather than turning to sack multiple per season. As a club legend, Cleverely knows the club inside out after spending six years with the club in his playing days. Backing him has seemingly paid off so far, with three wins out of three in all competitions.
It’s no surprise that Watford and Udinese are yet again doing business with each other. However, Udinese this time are looking to offload some talent, rather than just snatching all of the Hornet’s talent. Although Semedo hasn’t got a great goal-scoring record, he may benefit from Cleverley’s free-flowing football, and with time on the teenager’s side, a move to the Championship will ultimately benefit him.
