Hull City are close to signing Ecuadorian midfielder Oscar Zambrano, according to reports from Hull Live.
The 20-year-old is said to be in talks with the East Yorkshire outfit with Hull having agreed a deal with Zambrano’s current side, reigning Ecuadorian champions LDU Quito.
The youngster, who came through the same youth academy at Colorados Jaipadida as Chelsea star Moises Caicedo, is highly rated, having been linked with moves to England previously with the likes of Manchester United and Luton Town.
He had reportedly been near a move to Kenilworth Road in January, with Luton, as well as Bournemouth, having agreed a deal before contract disagreements.
He had also been linked with a move to Stoke City this summer but that move seems to have fallen through, leaving a move to the MKM Stadium open.
Zambrano is only 20 but has a vast amount of experience alongside these transfer links. He has amassed 14 appearances for Ecuador at under-20 level and has been close to the senior side on occasion. He has also played 45 times for his club side, proving to be a key man as LDU Quito won the Ecuadorian Serie A in 2023.
Should Zambrano sign for the Tigers, Tim Walter’s side will be getting the sort of player they were lacking last season. Hull had a range of cultured midfielders in their squad but no real bite, which Zambrano looks to be capable of adding from a holding position.
It’s been a summer of upheaval for the club, who narrowly missed the play-offs last term, with Jacob Greaves and Jaden Philogene both having left for a profit but few incomings. That looks set to end now with a deal for Zambrano seemingly imminent, and Tigers fans will be hoping he is just as successful and follows a similar trajectory in his time in East Yorkshire.

It’s been a quiet summer for Hull City, with some worrying outgoings, but they look to be getting on the right track with this deal. If successful, Zambrano will likely be sold for healthy profit which will help a club under financial pressure, with a transfer policy of buying young and selling on looking necessary. Tactically, Zambrano fits the bill, filling gaps in the midfield and adding a different dimension to the squad, meaning the Ecuadorian is likely to slot in well into the side.
