With just over two weeks until the new EFL season kicks off, excitement is starting to build in anticipation. Squads are starting to take shape, transfer business is in full flow, and supporters are hoping that this could finally be their season.
Here at The Real EFL, we love a prediction. We were so good at them last season (spoiler – we weren’t) that we thought we’d have another go…we can’t get any worse!
The Championship has proven to be one of the most exciting leagues in European football in recent years. With Leeds United narrowly missing out on promotion in May, Daniel Farke is hoping that he can go one better and finish within the top two. The division is arguably weaker this time around, with Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton replaced by Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town. However, former Premier League sides Portsmouth and Derby County both return to the second tier after their successes in League One.
The duo, alongside Oxford United, will be looking at Ipswich’s stunning surge up the table last season, eager to replicate the back-to-back promotions Kieran McKenna achieved. The likes of Hull City, Middlesbrough and Coventry City will all want their say though, having just missed out on a place in the top six.

Final Predicted Championship Table
According to the team, Leeds will succeed in returning to the Premier League at the second time of asking, whilst Luton’s stay in the Championship will be a brief one. Burnley, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Sheffield United will compete in the play-offs, with Michael Carrick’s team the favourite amongst the writers to succeed.
Derby are tipped to survive by the skin of their teeth, but Wayne Rooney’s appointment at Plymouth will not be enough to save them drop from the to League One. Blackburn avoided relegation on the final day last season, but there will be no repeat this time around. It’s not good news for Oxford, who prop up our table.
Further up the table, Sunderland may be satisfied with a ninth-placed finish, whilst Portsmouth will be happy to cement their place in the division.
