Plymouth Argyle are the latest Championship club alongside Sheffield Wednesday, Preston North End and Derby County to show interest in Rangers’ forward Scott Wright, as reported by Heart and Hand.
Wright is not short of Championship admirers this summer. Reports from Darren Witcoop highlighted Preston and Derby’s pursuit of the 26-year-old, while the Daily Record stated that Sheffield Wednesday are also keen to sign the winger.
However, Plymouth has also entered the competitive race for the Rangers player this summer. Wayne Rooney was named as the Pilgrim’s new manager in May and the former England international seemingly wants to add more depth to his attacking options this summer, with Wright reportedly on the list.
The 38-yeard old coach has made some swift moves in the transfer market, signing two attacking players on loan already. Ibrahim Cissoko from Toulouse and Muhamed Tijani from Slavia Prague have arrived at Home Park during the summer market.
In addition to their recent links with Rangers’ Wright, Plymouth has reportedly launched a move to sign Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi too. Ultimately, such activity shows that Rooney perhaps wants to sign genuine competition for last season’s top scorer Morgan Whittaker and improve depth in the forward areas.
Due to Wright’s relatively low valuation of around £1 million, as recorded by Transfermarkt, the winger could be a viable permanent signing. However, this price tag means that competition for the 26-year-old could be rife in the coming weeks.
Wright joined Rangers from Dundee on a permanent deal worth £200,000 in 2021. But the versatile forward struggled to hold a regular spot for the Gers. He made 117 appearances in all competitions and scoring just 12 goals, according to Transfermarkt.

Wright has plenty to offer his host of Championship suitors. The forward has top-level experience at Rangers and has played in the Europa League and Champions League previously. Also, he is adept at playing on either flank – versatility that is in high demand to improve squad depth in the Championship.
Plymouth’s emergence for Wright has shown Rooney’s ambition to add quality to his squad, with a particular focus on shoring up his attacking options. The former Derby County boss might have the allure to get this transfer over the line. But a drawn-out battle for Wright’s signature between the Championship quartet is expected in the coming weeks.
