Former Derby County Star Attracting Interest Of Championship Rivals

Former Derby County defender Jayden Bogle is attracting the interest of Championship rivals Leeds United, according to journalist Mike McGrath.

The 23-year-old joined Derby’s academy in 2016, eventually forcing his way into the first team setup two years later. He went on to become an ever-present under then-boss Frank Lampard, keeping his place under Philip Cocu when the former England international departed for Chelsea.

His form at Pride Park caught the eye of Sheffield United, who were looking to cement their place in the Premier League after a successful first season back in the top tier. This saw the Blades launch a £15 million double swoop for Bogle and his teammate Max Lowe in 2020.

The defender played a bit-part role in his first season at Bramall Lane as the Yorkshire outfit suffered relegation, but he forced his way into the starting XI the following year before injury curtailed his progress. He broke back into the team the following December, where he mainly operated as a right full-back in United’s promotion-winning campaign.

Back in the Premier League, Bogle featured heavily, making 34 appearances. However, relegation beckoned once again following a hugely disappointing season which saw them finish bottom.

Sheffield United announced in May that they had triggered a one-year extension in his current contract, but it looks as if a move across Yorkshire is on the cards. It is claimed that Leeds are hoping to bring the former Swindon Town youngster to Elland Road this summer.

The Whites are in the market for a right-back after Archie Gray departed the club in a big money move to Tottenham Hotspur. The teenager was Daniel Farke’s preferred option throughout last season, although he did move into central midfield during the latter stages of the campaign. This saw Sam Byram switch to the opposite flank after operating mainly at left-back for the majority of the season.

Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion after losing the play-off final against Southampton in May. They know they have a glorious opportunity to go one better this time around and are expected to have a big summer in the transfer market as a result.

Daniel Farke knows that success is imperative this season and is clearly targeting players that will help him achieve that end goal. Bogle is a player who has already tasted promotion from the Championship, and it is that kind of winning mentality that he needs in his squad.

Losing someone of the ability of Archie Gray was a huge blow, but the former Derby star has an abundance of experience at right-back, despite only being 23. Sheffield United will not want to lose such a key player, especially to a team they will class as a direct rival for promotion, but Leeds’ lure is big in this division. It could be tough to keep him at Bramall Lane if this interest turns out to be concrete.
