Sheffield United Set Sights On 43-Cap International

Sheffield United are keen on Welsh international Kieffer Moore, but face competition from his former club Cardiff City, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

The 31-year-old striker looks set to depart Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth this summer. He spent the second half of last season at Ipswich Town, where he scored seven times on the way to helping them secure promotion from the Championship.

Moore signed for Bournemouth for a fee believed to be around £5 million in 2022. He penned a three-and-a-half-year deal which is set to expire next year. However, it looks as if his time at the Vitality Stadium is coming to an end.

Sheffield United are keen to bring in an experienced attacker this summer. They released Oli McBurnie following their relegation from the Premier League earlier this year, whilst Ben Brereton Diaz returned to parent club Villarreal following the expiration of his loan.

According to Witcoop, Moore is a player who the Blades are interested in bringing to Bramall Lane. Having represented Wales on 43 occasions, he is certainly a player who boasts a wealth of experience. The Championship is a division in which he has enjoyed considerable success, having scored 54 goals in 173 appearances.

It is also claimed that Cardiff are keen on a reunion though. The attacker enjoyed an excellent spell at the Welsh club prior to his move to Bournemouth and has been linked with a return over the past few months. His first stint at the club saw him pick up the Player of the Year award in 2021, mainly thanks to the 20 goals he bagged that season.

The pair aren’t the only interested parties. Other teams in the Championship are also monitoring the situation. Sunderland were one of multiple clubs linked with the former Barnsley man in January prior to his temporary switch to Ipswich.

Cardiff will be hoping that their prior relationship with Moore will give them the edge in the race for his signature. However, they were reportedly keen in the winter transfer window, but lost out there. The Bluebirds will feel that they have the advantage though, especially with Sheffield United’s takeover woes causing them issues in the market so far.

The Blades signed Jamie Shackleton on a free transfer earlier this week but signing players that require a fee are stalling whilst their situation behind the scenes plays out. Peterborough United defender Harrison Burrows has been widely tipped with a move to Yorkshire, but the deal appears to be in doubt. This could play into Cardiff’s hands, or any other club interested in Moore.
