Sheffield Wednesday continued their early summer transfer business by completing the capture of Polish Youth International Olaf Kobacki.
The 22-year-old winger becomes Danny Rohl’s sixth signing as The Owls aim for a better start this season to the one they endured last time out when the newly promoted side struggled to find their feet in the EFL Championship.
Local outlet The Star had earlier reported that the winger was close to signing and now it has been confirmed the club were hot on their social media to announce his arrival with a somewhat quirky take on a Disney favourite.
Playing on his name, Olaf, allowed the creative team to flex their muscles and combine his signing announcement alongside the characters of the popular animated film Frozen.

In the meantime, the club were more official with their statement: “Wednesday are pleased to announce the signing of Olaf Kobacki for an undisclosed fee from Polish side Arka Gdynia. The 22-year-old started his career with Lech Poznan’s academy before moving to Serie A side Atalanta in 2017.
“He now joins Danny Röhl’s side as the club’s sixth addition of the summer transfer window. Welcome to Hillsborough, Olaf!”
Kobacki has a decent CV to fall back on and had a hand either scoring or assisting in 23 goals for Arka Gdinya last term, he will be hopeful to carry that form over. He has been capped through all the Polish National teams’ youth system, gaining 32 appearances from the U16-U20 level, scoring five times.
Wednesday fans may not have to wait long to get a glimpse of their new man as they play their first preseason friendly this weekend against Alfreton Town.
Writer’s View
It may well be cold enough during the Winter months to build a snowman, but Kobacki has the chance to settle in and warm up the hearts and minds of those at Hillsborough. Having spent an early part of his youth career at Atalanta it’s clear he has caught the eye of many a scout. Rohl is building a decent squad and having young players in the mix is always a good sign.
Time will tell if he is a success or if they will be urging the club to Let it Go.
