Blackburn Rovers Keen On Dutch International

Blackburn Rovers will turn their attention to Luton Town goalkeeper Tim Krul should they miss out on John Ruddy, according to Alan Nixon.

Krul, who has been capped 13 times by the Netherlands, hasn’t played a league match since being on the end of a 3-0defeat to Burnley in February 2023 while playing for Norwich City.

He spent last season on the bench for Luton as they succumbed to relegation back to the Championship, only taking to the field on six occasions for cup matches.

Rovers had been linked with Birmingham City stopper John Ruddy, only for the 1-cap England international to be more recently linked with Charlton Athletic.

The Ewood Park outfit flirted with relegation last season and manager John Eustace is hoping to use his first transfer window in charge to improve the club’s fortunes.

Last season, the fight to be number one was between Aynsley Pears and Leopold Wahlstedt with Pears edging the number of appearances.

Pears struggled for form at times and with the future of Wahlstedt being uncertain, Eustace has turned his attention to an experienced stopper.

Should Ruddy end up elsewhere, Krul is likely to be keen on a move for more first-team football after playing second fiddle to former Rovers number-one Thomas Kaminski.

Krul is vastly experienced at Premier League and Championship level, as well as being with the Netherlands at a World Cup and two European Championships.

The 36-year-old has amassed over 200 English top-flight appearances and has kept 38 Championship clean sheets in a career that has spanned almost two decades.

If Blackburn is in the market for an experienced keeper this summer then Krul is an excellent option.

He is hugely experienced and will be desperate for some game time having had to play the role of back for a couple of seasons.

Eustace will be hoping to send out a settled defence with a regular keeper as he looks to improve the club’s league performance and Krul could be the start of that foundation.
