Notts County Star Man Expected To Leave Club

Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff is expected to leave Meadow Lane this summer following interest from five EFL clubs.

Journalist Darren Witcoop reports on his official X account that three League One clubs have registered their interest in the 27-year-old, with Championship side Millwall having lodged an official bid for the player.

Despite the interest, Langstaff is contracted at the club until 2027, which means any deal is likely to command a hefty fee.

Childhood Middlesbrough fan Langstaff started his career in the club’s academy before his release aged 13, at which point he started his non-league career. He had his first taste of senior football at Gateshead and moved to York City in 2018, before returning to the North East two years later. It was here Langstaff really blossomed, registering 31 goals in 53 games, which earnt him a move to his current club

The striker has caught the eye during his time in Nottingham, having scored 70 goals in 96 games, including 28 in his debut EFL season last term when he topped the scoring charts. That record is despite Notts County’s struggles last season where they conceded the most goals in the division on their way to a 14th placed finish. As well as this, Langstaff also holds the record for most goals in a single National League season, netting 41 times as the Magpies secured promotion via the play-offs.

Langstaff has taken to the EFL like a duck to water, which has seen clubs in higher divisions being linked with him in the hopes that he can adapt similarly.

In addition to the interest reported by Witcoop, Langstaff has also been strongly rumoured with a move to Swansea City, with ex-Notts County boss Luke Williams now the man in charge at the Swansea.com Stadium. Where Langstaff moves is as yet unknown, but as Witcoop reports, it seems highly unlikely he’ll be playing at Meadow Lane for much longer.

Writer’s View

A move to a higher decision is almost inevitable for Langstaff. He has proven himself in a range of divisions and has done just that in League Two with a Notts County side which haemorrhaged goals last season. Langstaff will surely believe he can play at a higher level, so the interest from the second and third tiers is not a surprise. Come September when the window shuts, it’s pretty certain the 27-year-old will be playing away from Nottingham.
