Swansea City could be set to miss out on the signing of Notts County frontman Macauley Langstaff this summer after a recent development in the transfer saga.
The Swans endured a difficult campaign last time out which saw Michael Duff lose his job before Christmas. However, while not being perfect, Luke Williams came from Meadow Lane in League Two and managed to steady the ship, keeping the Welsh outfit in the Championship for another season after achieving a 14th-place finish, seven points above the relegation zone.
With the transfer window open for the last two weeks, work has commenced behind the scenes at the Swansea.com Stadium to strengthen the first-team squad to avoid a repeat of last season’s relegation battle. However, so far, the club have been unsuccessful in adding any new players to Williams’ side.
It has been reported in the media that Williams is keen to reunite with Notts County centre-forward Macauley Langstaff after yet another prolific season. The 27-year-old was the top goalscorer in England’s fourth tier in the previous campaign, having bagged 28 goals in 46 matches while complementing his record with six assists.
Darren Witcoop reported two weeks ago that Swansea City were keeping a close eye on Langstaff’s situation in Nottingham, although he also revealed that clubs such as Middlesbrough and Sunderland were also in the running for his signature.
Nevertheless, Football Insider are now claiming that fellow Championship side Millwall have submitted a bid for the centre-forward as manager Neil Harris is keen to bolster his attacking department which boasts only Kevin Nesbit and Tom Bradshaw.

Swansea City potentially would have had the edge in the race to sign Langstaff as Williams worked under the striker before during his time in charge at Meadow Lane. However, perhaps the player would rather remain in England than live in Wales for the next few years.
There is also a concern that Langstaff may not be able to replicate his goalscoring form over the past few seasons when he makes the step up to the Championship, but Ali Al-Hamadi managed to adapt to England’s second-tier extremely well at Ipswich Town, so there’s no reason why Langstaff can’t do the same, even if he does so at Millwall instead of Swansea or Middlesbrough.
