Arsenal striker and former Lincoln City loanee Tyreece John-Jules is set to hit the free agent market after being named on the Premier League outfit’s released list on their official website.
Although rather highly thought of, it potentially doesn’t come as a huge surprise to see John-Jules released by the Gunners having never made an appearance for the first team. He was quite the asset during his youth days for the club, regularly on the scoresheet in both the U18 Premier League and then the Premier League 2 but he couldn’t quite break into the senior side.
He does however have a fair amount of senior experience to his name, with numerous loan spells with various EFL sides on his resume.
The first of those would be to Lincoln City back in the 2019/20 season, one that was prematurely ended due to the outbreak of COVID-19. As a result, having joined the Imps in the January transfer window that year, the striker would be limited to just seven appearances for the club.
Putting his name on the scoresheet once, he would show some ability and had he had more opportunities at Lincoln, could’ve flourished. After his loan spell under then-manager Michael Appleton, John-Jules would go onto play for ; Doncaster Rovers, Blackpool, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town and most recently, Derby County.
In total he’s now appeared 55 times in the third tier as well as putting up 11 appearances in the Championship and has proved himself at the level. Despite struggling with injury this season with Derby, he’d still show ability and a move back to League One next season is by no means out of question.
Although it is unknown what the future holds for the 23-year-old, a permanent move to a club in League One could work out well and allow him to get his confidence back. Lincoln have a proven track record of progressing young talent and a return for John-Jules could see him reach new heights.
He’ll no doubt have plenty of clubs monitoring him over the coming months but a move back to the Imps, or another ambitious League One side could help him to progress.
Writer’s View
John-Jules has perhaps been unlucky with injury over the past two seasons and if able to stay fit, he could be quite the asset. It would be a signing which does come with its risks but likewise could bring plenty of rewards.
He’s in fact been in two-promotion winning squads, Ipswich and Derby, over the past two seasons and is still rather highly thought of. It’s now just about getting his confidence back.
With only one Lincoln player, Joe Taylor, hitting double figures in the league this season, perhaps the Imps will be in for a striker or two this summer. They may wish to pursue John-Jules, especially now that he is available on a free and it is a move which could work out well for both parties.
