Derby County Preparing Bid For International Midfielder

Derby County are preparing a bid to sign Cardiff City midfielder Ebou Adams this summer after the Gambian international impressed during his loan spell with the club according to reporter Darren Witcoop on Twitter (X).

Adams would spend the second half of the season on loan at Pride Park and his performances for the Rams would play a huge part in their promotion to the second tier. Although they would miss out on the title, Derby would achieve automatic promotion after beating Carlisle United on the final day of the season, finishing with a five point gap to third-placed Bolton Wanderers.

The midfielder would start in all 17 appearances that he made for the Rams and his impact in the engine room was easy to see. Playing as both a central as well as defensive midfielder during his stay, Adams proved both his versatility as well as quality in the middle of the park.

There had been some questions upon his arrival given he was extremely out of favour at Cardiff. Adams would make just 11 appearances in the first half of the season for the Championship outfit, just three of those being starts and it doesn’t look as if he’ll be in the future plans of the club.

However, the Gambian could still play in the Championship next season with Darren Witcoop reporting that the Rams are keen on signing the midfielder permanently.

In his post, Witcoop detailed that Derby are putting together a £250,000 bid for the 28-year-old, however Cardiff are not willing to sell unless that fee is doubled. It would be quite the fee to pay but given his performances for the club, they may well pursue.

Derby will be looking to preserve their Championship status next season and signing’s like that of Adams should help them achieve just that. Although he doesn’t have that much experience in the second tier, it seems as if the midfielder is continuing to improve with age and is more than capable at that level.

The club will no doubt look to try and get Cardiff’s asking price down, especially as he is not a key man at the Cardiff City Stadium but there is the added factor of Derby now being direct competitors in the same league.

Writer’s View

Expect plenty more about Adams’ future to come out in the coming weeks and months as he seems likely to leave Cardiff this summer. Derby would be the obvious destination given his performances during his loan spell and it does seem the right fit for both the club and player.

Cardiff’s asking price does seem on the high side however and Derby will need to be smart with their business in order to survive in the second tier next season.

Nonetheless they need strength across the park, and Adams brings just that. Once the transfer window opens, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Derby fire multiple bids over for the midfielder who could well be back at Pride Park next season.
