Leeds United have been urged to splash between £15-20 million to bring Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff to Elland Road this summer by a former player.
Any transfer business over the coming months will depend greatly on whether or not Daniel Farke manages to guide the Yorkshire outfit back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Currently, the Whites sit inside the automatic promotion spots but Ipswich Town below them have a game in hand.

There was a massive overhaul at Elland Road at the beginning of the season as many players who suffered relegation to the Championship in the previous campaign were moved on to pastures new. This was aided by parachute payments after being condemned to the second tier.
These compensatory advances are greatly reduced in a club’s second season after relegation should they fail to earn promotion, hence Leeds United may be forced to sell some valuable assets such as Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray.
Failing to return to the top-flight by the end of the campaign could hinder the club in the transfer market. One name linked with the side over the past week is Newcastle’s Longstaff, as was reported by the Sunday People, via Caught Offside. The outlet are also claiming that promotion rivals Leicester City are interested in the 26-year-old midfielder.
Speaking to Football League World over the past few days, former Leeds player Carlton Palmer believes a move to his old club could be what Longstaff needs to get his career back on track.
“Leicester City have joined the race with Leeds United for the signature of Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United. Eddie Howe has come out and said that he’s a big admirer of Sean, and he would not want to let him go,” Palmer said.

“But in terms of rebuilding at the football club and pushing on, if they got an offer of around £15-20 million pounds, they would not be averse to letting him go.
“Which would be the best fit for the way that he plays? I think he would be more suited to be playing under Daniel Farke at Leeds United. The way that he plays and the way that Daniel likes to play, I think he would be a fan favourite at Leeds. They love a player who can get around the pitch and gets tackles in and shows some energy. So I think Leeds United would be an absolutely perfect move for him.”

Longstaff is a very solid Premier League midfielder and became a beloved figure at St. James’ Park with supporters given he is a local lad who rose through the academy ranks to become a starter in the Newcastle lineup.
However, he is quite a limited player and may not suit Eddie Howe’s vision of the team going forward since the Tyneside club’s fortunes have changed over the past two and a half years. Nevertheless, a team fighting in the lower half of the table next season, like Leeds United or Leicester potentially, could certainly make use of his services.
