Interest Intensifies In Leicester City Star

No less than seven clubs are considering making a move for Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi at the end of the season, according to Italian media.

The 27-year-old looks set to end his seven-year stay at the King Power Stadium this summer following the culmination of his contract. There has been speculation throughout the past few months regarding interested parties, with Barcelona amongst the names previously linked.

Despite his imminent exit, the Nigerian international has still played a key role in Enzo Maresca’s team, making 32 appearances in all competitions. Leicester are targeting an immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation last season.

Ndidi has been a pivotal member of the squad since joining in 2017. He arrived in a £17 million deal from Belgian outfit Genk and has since gone on to feature 269 times. This includes their stunning FA Cup triumph in 2021.

With no sign of a new deal being agreed, several clubs are starting to circle. According to Tutto Juve, via Sport Witness, Italian giants Juventus are keen, as are La Liga duo Sevilla and Getafe. However, there is now heavy interest from the Premier League, with Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United all entering the fray.

It’s not the first time clubs from the top tier have been linked. Last week, HITC claimed that Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers were all keeping tabs on the player’s situation ahead of a potential summer swoop. It is also stated that Leicester have resigned to the fact that they will lose the midfielder’s services regardless of whether they achieve promotion this season.

It appears as if Ndidi is going to have a big decision on his hands. He could also opt for Turkey, with Fenerbahce hoping to add the midfielder to their ranks, whilst Trabzonspor are looking to secure a double raid on the Foxes by also signing striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

This now takes the number of clubs linked to Ndidi to close to 20, and there are sure to be many more yet. The fact of the matter is that he is a player that will be highly sought-after as he has the ability to play at the highest level. Throw in the lack of transfer fee and there will absolutely be a scramble for his signature.

Leicester will still maintain the slim hope they can get him to extend his stay if they achieve promotion to the Premier League, although it is looking increasingly unlikely. With the number of overseas clubs linked, it does seem odd that nobody has attempted to strike a deal as they are allowed to talk to him before the end of the season. This could indicate that a move to another team in the English top tier is on the cards.
