Hull City’s Abdülkadir Omur admitted that a move to the Championship was never a consideration when his former club Trabzonspor faced the Tigers in a mid-season friendly last season, as reported by Hull Live.
During the 2022 World Cup, Hull took on Turkish side Trabzonspor in Antalya. Omur featured for the Black Sea Storm and remained at the club until February 1, 2024, when he completed his move to the MKM Stadium.
The midfielder was a regular at Trabzonspor and attracted attention for making over 200 appearances for the Turkish Super Lig side, as recorded by Transfermarkt. Omur also produced plenty of goal contributions during his time in Turkey, notching 25 goals and 36 assists in all competitions.
During the winter transfer window, the 24-year-old arrived amongst a swathe of exciting young signings under Liam Rosenior. Other notable arrivals alongside Omur included Ivor Pandur, Fabio Carvalho, Ryan Giles and Noah Ohio.
While the Turkish midfielder struggled to cement a regular place in the Hull starting lineup initially, he has started the last four matches and produced some strong performances. In particular, Omur set up compatriot Ozan Tufan for Hull’s opener in their 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers last time out.
The 24-year-old is starting to find his feet at the MKM Stadium. However, he admitted to Hull Live that even playing for Rosenior’s side was not even on the radar 16 months ago when Hull met Trabzonspor in that mid-season friendly.
“Yes, I remember the game, it was a 1-1 draw I think. It was a good game and after the game myself and Ozan, we spoke, we were joking with each other, I was asking him how was England, he said to me it was very good, everyone is good. I could not imagine after that game I would go to Hull, but life is like this.”
Omur also spoke highly of Roseenior and shared his respect for the former Derby County boss. In particular, the playmaker highlighted the 39-year-old’s attention to detail as a strong quality for the Tigers this season.
“He’s very young gaffer, we respect him so much because he is, I think, 39 years old. Some players in Turkey, they are still playing football (at that age).
“When I came here, he showed me his analysis, how we’re going to play, how you’re gong to play. We have this system, he wants to keep the ball. He’s still young and I hope in the future he will have a good career.”

Despite Omur’s surprise at sealing a move to Hull in the January transfer window, his comments show that he is settling well to life at the MKM Stadium. Moreover, the Turkish international seems to have the utmost respect for Rosenior, which will help the Tigers’ boss to get the most out of his talented playmaker next season.
Omur has made a relatively slow start in a Hull shirt, as he has been eased into Championship action. Yet his talents are evident and he could prove to be a key player in this youthful Tigers side that could make a late charge for the play-offs.
