Hull City Handed Further Play-Off Blow

Hull City head coach Liam Rosenior has provided an injury update on three players ahead of this Saturday’s home clash with relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers.

The Tigers suffered yet another crushing blow on Wednesday night at the MKM Stadium as Middlesbrough came back from behind to share the spoils. As a result, Liam Rosenior’s men have been left in tenth-place, six points below the final play-off spot.

A victory would have moved the Yorkshire outfit to within four points of Norwich City and above Middlesbrough in the table. However, Finn Azaz’s sumptuous, little dink over Ryan Allsop in the Hull City goal rescued a point for Boro on their travels.

Rosenior’s men do have a slight advantage over their competitors in the race for Premier League promotion as they still have a game in hand, although this comes away at Coventry City in two weeks’ time which won’t be the easiest fixture given the Sky Blues are also vying for a spot in the top six.

First, though, Hull need to get through this weekend’s opponents, QPR. The visitors are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table and have suffered merely one defeat in their previous five outings in the Championship.

The last time these two teams met was at the beginning of December. The London outfit came away with all three points as Chris Willock and Ilias Chair sunk their teeth into the toothless Tigers that day.

Speaking after last night’s disappointing result, Rosenior hinted that Ryan Giles, Matty Jacob and Anass Zaroury could all be missing from action this weekend as the congested end-of-the-season schedule catches up with his players [quotes via London World]:

“Ryan Giles has been feeling his groin, Matty Jacob felt his calf in one of his warm-ups as well. We’re just going through that moment, it’s the schedule. It is what it is, and that’s why you use the squad. So I had to manage the squad.

“Anass unfortunately missed out because he’s got a small issue in his groin, not a big one so we’ll have to see how long that is. And that’s what you get at this stage of the season, and that’s why your squad is so important.”

Incidentally, Hull City have struggled the most at home this season so Queens Park Rangers will be feeling confident that they can take a result back to West London on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers last won a match at the MKM Stadium at the start of February, 13 games ago.

Potentially being without key players when QPR come to town this weekend, Rosenior’s men will be considerably weaker. Failing to pick up three points could all but end their narrow hopes of returning to the top-flight.
