Leeds United Plot Move For Attacker With 22 Goals

Leeds United are interested in signing Michy Batshuayi from Fenerbache in the summer transfer window and have made contact with the player’s representatives, according to a report from Fotomac in Turkey.

The Whites admire the Belgian striker, who has scored 22 goals in all competitions for Fenerbache this season, contributing with a further three assists. The former Chelsea forward’s contract is expiring this summer, but the Turkish giants have an option to trigger an extension that will see him remain at the club for a further twelve months.

Fenerbache are hoping to tie Batshauyi down beyond that year, and they are planning to offer him an extension until 2027. Leeds are currently in talks with the player’s representatives in a bid to bring him to Elland Road, but they are yet to receive assurances he would be open to the move.

Daniel Farke’s side are looking to replace Patrick Bamford, with the 30-year-old expected to leave the club at the end of the season. He has featured 38 times so far, scoring on eight occasions. The former Middlesbrough striker is currently on a run of eight games without a goal.

The Whites are in a race to win promotion to the Premier League, with just two points separating them in third place and Ipswich Town in first. Batshuayi is someone with experience in the top flight, having played in the competition 77 times and scoring on 15 occasions. The Belgian played for both Chelsea and Crystal Palace during his time in the division.

Leeds United Promotion Hopes Suffer Huge Blow By Supercomputer

Leeds United have previous interest in the player, dating back to August 2020, when they won promotion to the top flight. The Yorkshire outfit registered an interest in signing him, with Marcelo Bielsa being a particularly big fan at the time, but a deal never materialised in the end.

Batshuayi is unlikely to communicate his decision until the end of the season, but reports have suggested Fenerbache are confident of keeping hold of him when the time comes due to the extension in his contract. The Yellow Canaries are two points behind Galatasaray at the moment, with just six games remaining.

Writer’s View

Leeds United would be pulling off an incredible deal if they managed to sign Batshuayi, but they will face a fight as Fenerbache are unwilling to let the player leave easily. The Belgian has been in incredible form this season, and the Turkish side are not eager to allow an important player to leave for such a cheap fee.

He would be a perfect replacement for Bamford if they could pull it off, but at the moment, it looks like it’s a deal the Whites are searching to complete more in hope than anything else. The lure of Champions League football is expected to be too good for the player to turn down, but Leeds could promise the might of the Premier League if they were to win promotion.
