Doncaster Rovers Continue Unexpected Playoff Push With “Most Satisfying” Win So Far

There is always one team that makes a late charge into the playoff places across all the EFL and in League Two that team could be Doncaster Rovers. After another win, their seventh on the bounce, Rovers find themselves just four points outside the playoffs places.

The latest win, a 2-1 home victory over another playoff candidate Walsall, has manager Grant McCann cooing and suggesting that this was the “most satisfying” of the win streak that has elevated his side to a position that no one saw coming.

With four games to play Doncaster will still likely have to win all their remaining games and hope for a lot of help from teams. That though isn’t as far-fetched as you would think with the teams above them showing alarming inconsistency.

McCann was speaking to the media after the game, and the Doncaster Free Press reported his satisfaction with their current form, and this latest win. “It’s a sign of a good team when you’re not at your best but you can provide moments of quality to win it.

“We dug deep and got the job done. Walsall are similar in style to Wrexham and it was a different sort of challenge. We had to be patient and try and draw their press out and I thought we did it much better second half.

“That was probably our most satisfying win tonight just because I know we didn’t play to the level we can but we’ve still won. I said that to the players.

“We want a positive end to the season and finish strongly and see where it takes us. That’s it really.”

Doncaster takes their impressive seven-game winning run into their next fixture, another home match, with Accrington Stanley as the opposition.

With other teams faltering Doncaster is peaking at the right time. Their run-in is tricky but favourable given their form and takes in other playoff contenders along the way Barrow and Gillingham, are on either side of a trip to Colchester United who are battling at the other end of the table to avoid the drop.

Momentum is a great thing though, and McCann will know that if they do make it into the playoffs, they could be a dangerous outfit for those also challenging for promotion.
