‘We Want To Continue That Success’- Notts County Boss Responds To Board Comments

Notts County manager Stuart Maynard has responded to the comments made by his board before Saturday’s home victory, in a report by the Nottingham Post.

The board admitted to being dissatisfied with the results and the outcome of the season, having had a positive start.

However, it appears that the board are confident with Maynard being at the helm and is committed to giving him the chance to build a squad. The manager has expressed his own confidence in bringing more success to the club.

He said, “We’ve continued to work the way we’ve wanted to. As a management team, we believe in getting the performances right and the results will follow.”

The former Wealdstone manager has only overseen three victories from his 15 league matches in charge. Despite the poor form, the owners and management team appear firmly aligned in their desire to improve things at Meadow Lane.

Maynard continued, “The statement was from the owners, and their model is something that we believe in, which is why we came, and that model has been hugely successful over the last 18 months or so.”

“We want to continue that success. We’ve had many different conversations and are building towards the next season now. We need to make sure we add the right people in the summer to combat all the teams we come up against in League Two.”

The 43-year-old is still a relatively inexperienced manager but was hand-picked for the Magpie’s dugout by data data-driven owners Alexander and Christoffer Reedtz. He believes the experience gained this season will stand the club in good stead moving forward.

“We’ve had a taste of the league now, so we know what it takes moving forward, and that is what the conversations [with the owners] have revolved around. I don’t worry about anything but coming to work and focusing on my job and that is preparing for the next game.”

With just four matches left to play, County could still play a pivotal role in the outcome of the division, facing promotion-hunting Stockport County as well as relegation-threatened Forest Green Rovers and Colchester United.

Maynard is hopeful his side can end the season in a positive manner as they look ahead to the next campaign.

“We need to build momentum and take it into next season, so it’s massive that we finish strong this term to get that feel-good factor back around the place which is something we’re aiming to do.”

Following on from a promotion-winning manager was never going to be easy and Maynard has struggled in the early stages of his Notts County career.

Ordinarily, a manager on such a run would be under pressure but it appears that there is trust between the board and management.

County will need to start next season well or it is likely the goodwill towards the boss will begin to wain.
