Leeds United Dealt Blow In Pursuit Of £500K Man Following European Interest

Leeds United have registered interest in Aberdeen’s young sensation Connor Barron ahead of the summer transfer window but now face stiff competition for the 21-year-old.

The Whites were dealt a significant blow to their hopes of finishing in the automatic promotion spots on Saturday as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the home of Coventry City, failing to take advantage of Ipswich Town‘s slip-up in the East Anglian Derby against Norwich City.

Leeds United Set For Battle For £860k-Rated Midfielder

Elsewhere, Leicester City scored late on to beat relegation-threatened Birmingham City at the King Power Stadium which catapulted the Foxes back to the top of the Championship, the position they held for the majority of the campaign before four losses in six games dragged Enzo Maresca’s men down to third.

The recruitment department at Leeds United have been working hard off the pitch to prepare the club for the summer window which opens in just two months. However, a lot of transfer plans hedge on whether or not the club earn promotion back to the Premier League.

One man who has been linked with a return to Elland Road is former academy product Kalvin Phillips who spent over a decade at the Yorkshire outfit. Nonetheless, Manchester City are reportedly looking for between £30-40 million for his services, meaning Leeds must be in the top-flight to spend that kind of money.

Another name touted with a move to Leeds has been Aberdeen star Connor Barron. The midfielder is out of contract in the summer so Daniel Farke is able to snap him up for free at the end of the season unless he pens a new deal.

However, a new report from the Daily Record states that Serie A clubs Cagliari and Sassuolo – the former being managed by ex-Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri – have joined the race for Barron’s signature, allowing him to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Lewis Ferguson who is now at Bologna.

A lot of planned transfer activity for Leeds United will completely depend on whether or not the club are in the Premier League. If they are, then the Whites will have an edge over the likes of Cagliari and Sassuolo.

Nonetheless, Ferguson moved from Aberdeen to Bologna and is currently fighting for a spot in the Champions League under Thiago Motta, having become a regular in the Scotland national team too. Perhaps this pathway would be more favourable for Barron than being a squad player at Elland Road.
