Barcelona are set to turn their attention to Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi this summer, according to Team Talk.
The Catalan club’s first choice is reported to be Everton’s Amadou Onana but is likely to be put off by his £80 million asking price.
Barcá are not in a financial position to spend that sort of money, so are likely to turn to free transfers as they look to bolster their midfield options.
Arsenal’s 32-year-old Italian Jorginho is high on the wanted list of the five-time European champions. He is out of contract at the Premier League leaders in the summer and is reportedly keen on a move to Spain.
The Blaugrana are keen to bring both Jorginho and Leicester’s Ndidi to the club, with the Nigerian international also out of contract at the end of the season.
Ndidi, a 53-cap Super Eagles international, has been at the King Power Stadium since January 2017 having joined the club from Genk.
Enzo Maresca’s Foxes sit a point clear of Ipswich Town and Leeds United at the top of the Championship, and Ndidi has performed well across his 26 league appearances.
Promotion to the English top flight may not be enough for the club to persuade the Lagos-born midfielder to remain a Fox, with reports suggesting he could still leave if Premier League football is secured.
Team Talk’s report also claims that the midfield man is attracting interest from Turkey in the shape of Galatasaray as well as Everton, who are likely to make a move should they lose Onana.
Writer’s View
Wilfred Ndidi has been a key player for Leicester and the club will be disappointed to lose him, particularly on a free transfer.
Should Barcelona firm up their interest, it is hard to see the Nigerian remaining at the King Power Stadium regardless of the division City find themselves in next season.
