Cardiff City Midfielder Makes Plea To Owners

Cardiff City midfielder Manolis Siopis wants the club to renew the contract of manager Erol Bulut sooner rather than later.

The Greek midfielder has made 36 appearances for the Bluebirds since joining last summer and was brought in from Trabzonspor as one of the first signings of Erol Bulut’s tenure. The 29-year-old has been a key fixture of the 4-2-3-1 system the Turkish boss likes to employ and has been a consistent performer, often next to the highly regarded Joe Ralls.

With the team now 11th and eight points off the top six with just six games to play, the play-offs are probably beyond them this time around. Despite this, there is a sense of optimism around the manager and squad, meaning hopes are high that next season could bring success if there is a new deal agreed for Bulut.

However, currently that is a big if as with the 49-year-old’s current contract expiring at the conclusion of this campaign, owner Vincent Tan has a decision to make as to whether he will let go the 12th manager of his 13-year reign at the club.

Siopis is keen to see the man who brought him to the Welsh capital remain at the helm:

“He is the guy who brought me to this club and this country, it’s important [he stays],” he said, via BBC Sport. “If you ask me my opinion, we must know if he is staying or not because they must make plans for next year. We have just one month [left]. I want him to stay, of course. This is a question you must ask the owner, but we must know. We will see.”

The former Fenerbahçe boss was asked ahead of Saturday’s game against Hull City on whether he expects to be at Cardiff next season:

“One thing I can tell you is that I have no news. If I have news I will let you know. Last week we spoke about it, after Coventry, I also had these questions.

“For plans for the new season, you should have clearness. For the players it’s very important. Also for the manager it’s important, for the club and its future it’s important. It’s normal that the manager is involved in transfer talks. But we cannot talk about that because we don’t have clearness.”

Writer’s View:

Many football fans may be reading this thinking how frustrating the situation is for Bluebird supporters, but for those who attend The Cardiff City Stadium weekly, it has become something of the norm under the ownership of Vincent Tan. The Malaysian businessman has overseen a turbulent 13 years at the club and this season is no different.

Regardless of ownership, and as emphasised by Bulut himself, football teams need confidence and continuity to be successful. If the powers that be do not see the current manager as the man to take the club forwards, a decision as soon as possible would certainly benefit all parties. It would be a shame for a ruthless owner to yet again cut short a manager’s project that just seems to be gaining momentum.
