Hull City Owner Reveals Dream Signings

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has revealed that he would like to sign Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and Fenerbahce midfielder Fred.

The Tigers have enjoyed a resurgence since the arrival of the 54-year-old in 2022 and are currently vying for a spot in the Championship play-offs. Recent form has seen them slip to ninth in the table, six points behind Norwich City in sixth ahead of tonight’s tough trip to title-challengers Leeds United.

Despite their recent blip, it has been a largely successful season at the MKM Stadium and their recruitment under the Turk has been widely praised. The acquisition of Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa was viewed as a coup whilst the arrival of Fabio Carvalho on loan from Liverpool in January raised a few eyebrows.

Another summer of heavy transfer business is expected on Humberside and there are already heavy links to Peterborough United youngster Janos Bodnar. However, that is unlikely to be the only incoming.

Ilicali has always been open and honest regarding his ownership of the club, and he has once again revealed his ambitions for the upcoming transfer window. Speaking to Sabahvia Sport Witnesshe pinpointed two players that he would love to sign if the opportunity arose:

“If I had the right to buy two footballers at the end of the season, I would close my eyes and buy Fred.

“The Seri-Fred-Ozan trio is so beautiful that you should sit and watch it with pleasure. I’ll also get Muslera. Welcome Muslera to the Premier League.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred only joined Fenerbahce last summer after departing Old Trafford. He arrived in Turkey on a four-year deal for an initial fee of £8.6 million and has made 26 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, 37-year-old goalkeeper Fernando Muslera will see his contract at Galatasaray expire in the summer, although he has been an ever-present with the 23-time Turkish champions since 2011. Closing in on his 500th appearance for the club, it remains to be seen as to whether he will be offered an extension on his current deal.

Ilicali was clearly talking about his dream transfers and it is highly unlikely that either deal could happen. There’s a slim chance that Muslera may consider the switch, although he is seen as a hero at Galatasaray and will surely see his career out at the club in which he has enjoyed so much success.

Fred has to be considered a pipedream, even if Hull do reach the Premier League. He still has three years remaining in his contract and it would take a hefty sum for Fenerbahce to consider a sale. Still, Tigers fans will enjoy their owner targeting big names and all eyes will be on the MKM Stadium this summer to see what kind of business they can pull off.
