Stockport County Amongst Trio Of Clubs In Pursuit Of Non-League Star

Stockport County, Notts County and Barrow are amongst a trio of League Two clubs fighting for the signature of Billericay Town right-back George Wind, according to Football Insider.

Stockport are having a very successful season and sit at the top of League Two and are in great form having won their last three matches. Barrow are in the play-offs and sit in fifth but lost their most recent match, a local derby, against Morecambe.

Notts County had a bright start to the season but have fallen away in recent months, they are languishing down in 16th position and have taken just five points from a possible 15 as the pressure mounts on manager Stuart Maynard.

21-year-old Wind has made over 40 appearances in all competitions for Isthmian Premier League side Billericay this season, adding to the 36 he made last time out. The former Colchester United youngster has also spent time at fellow non-league outfit Bowers and Pitsea.

The defender is comfortable at both ends of the pitch, meaning he has proved himself to be integral to his side’s success, as they sit seventh in the division with a shot at promotion.

Gary McCann’s side are just three points behind Horsham in fifth who occupy the final play-off place, although they do have seven games remaining whereas the Blues have just four games left of their season.

Wind will hope to end the campaign on a high though despite his side having fewer games to go. He signed a new deal as recently as February to stay with the Essex-based side until the end of the 2024/25 season, so a fee would be required but it doesn’t appear to have put off the three suitors from the higher division.

The Isthmian side have enjoyed a successful Easter period to help them build momentum. They have recorded two wins, beating Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 on Saturday before cruising past Concord Rangers 2-0 on Monday.

With Wind being just as comfortable at both right back and right wing back, he is very adaptable and he’s played a lot of games for his current side, despite still being relatively young.

Stockport would be the obvious choice here and he could potentially play League One if he was to join them, but for all three clubs to be vying for him speaks of how good he has been for the Blues and the bright future he has. Should the Hatters earn promotion though, they may decide to look for more experienced players, opening up an opportunity for both Notts County and Barrow.
