“Underachieving” – Leicester City Tipped To Suffer Further Slip In Title Race

Leicester City picked up a vital win on Wednesday to keep their title pursuit intact after Ipswich Town earned another huge three points at home to Bristol City the day before.

Prior to the victory in midweek, the Foxes had endured a massive blip in the Championship, losing three consecutive league games against Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers at home as well as Leeds United at Elland Road.

Nevertheless, an early goal from Jamie Vardy in the 13th minute sealed an important victory for Enzo Maresca’s men at the Stadium of Light, although it was certainly an edgy affair, with Sunderland registering 17 shots on goal to the visitors’ 10.

Having cruised at the top of the league for the vast majority of the campaign, Leicester have allowed Ipswich and Leeds to claw back some points in the title race, with the former sitting merely three points behind going into this weekend’s fixtures.

One EFL pundit believes Leicester City will suffer yet another blip in their pursuit of title glory on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Hull City, who are inside the top six but with no wins in three matches in England’s second tier.

Writing in his EFL Predictions column for Sky Sports, former Leeds man David Prutton has called a 1-1 draw at the MKM Stadium, although he even hinted that the hosts have been “underachieving” slightly this term.

“Are Hull City underachieving slightly? It may seem a harsh thing to say about a side sat in the top six at this stage, but with the recruitment this season and in January they need to knuckle down and get a few more wins if they are to hold onto that play-off spot.

“Leicester got a vital win at Sunderland in midweek after three defeats on the bounce to keep themselves clear at the top. Hull beat them at the King Power in the reverse fixture, and I fancy them to deny them again, albeit with a draw.”

Writer’s View
Both Hull City and Leicester City have been struggling for form in recent weeks so this could well be a draw. However, it’s also the best time to play the Tigers given that Liam Rosenior’s side haven’t picked up a win in their previous three outings.
For Maresca’s men, picking up three points is of paramount importance. Both Ipswich and Leeds have taken it up another gear and so the Foxes are in no position to drop points right now if they want to lift the crown by the end of the season.
