Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the signing of former Coventry City striker Maxime Biamou on a short-term deal.
The French forward joins Rovers after training with the club for several weeks, including a run-out in a behind-closed-doors game against Tranmere Rovers this month.
The 33-year-old has spent just under two years away from football after picking up an injury issue that he sought rehabilitation for in France.
His last spell in the sport was a season for Dundee United, although injuries cut his time in Scotland short.
Speaking to official club media after the announcement, Biamou said: “It is a privilege for me to play for this good club.
It’s a big challenge for me too because I have been out for a long time but I am happy to be back playing and for this club.
“I want to help the club to be in a good shape like they are at the moment. I want to play a good part in not just staying up but climbing the league.
“My individual goal is to play as much as possible, score some goals and feel good in my fitness, my body and enjoy my football.”

Biamou’s experience in the English pyramid began in 2016 when he made the move to Sutton United from the fifth-tier French side AS Yzeure. His time in South London saw him net 13 goals in 39 appearances.
He earned a move to Coventry City at the end of the 2016/17 season where he would go on to win the League Two play-off final and see his first promotion to League One. His efforts also contributed to the Sky Blues’ third League One title and he was promoted yet again. It was across 115 appearances that the attacker scored 26 goals for the West Midlands side.
His breadth of experience is one thing admired by Doncaster manager, Grant McCann. He said: “Max has got really good experience.
“He’s been with us for more than a week and he’s looked really good in training. He looks sharp, he looks strong.
“He’s physical. He can get a hold of the ball and I think he can be a good foil for us. We can help him get fitter. He’s not 100 per cent but we feel we can get him up to speed really quickly.
“Hopefully he has a real impact for us for the remainder of the season.”
Rovers currently sit three places above the drop zone with a cushion of 12 points. A recent run of good form has seen them go unbeaten in the league in their last five matches. The addition of a new forward will hope to solidify their spot in League Two.
Biamou’s move is still subject to international clearance but the club have said he will take the number 36 shirt for his time at the club.
Writer’s View:
This is an interesting signing for Doncaster. It’s not particularly a necessary signing for them. However, it definitely benefits their squad and adds that extra depth to the front line, which never hurts. This could be a signing that has been facilitated to benefit Biamou more than the club as he looks to return to full fitness following his extensive time out due to injury.
He is a great player for a League Two side to take on for a couple of months with his proven track record in the EFL. He had a great time at Coventry and there is no doubt that he will be raring to go after being out so long.
