Blackburn Rovers Set To Offer Deal To £1.7 Million-Rated Attacker

Blackburn Rovers star Sam Gallagher was the subject of heavy interest from clubs in the Championship throughout the January transfer window but may be set to extend his stay at Ewood Park.

It was reported last month that promotion chasers Ipswich Town were keen to sign the former Southampton man before the winter market closed, submitting two bids for the 28-year-old, with the second being worth up to £1.5 million, as per journalist Nick Mashiter. However, both offers were rejected by the Lancashire outfit.

Furthermore, The Northern Echo revealed that Sunderland were also one of the chasing parties who were hoping to take Gallagher off of Blackburn’s hands as a new number ‘9’ was a top priority for the Black Cats, although this area was left untouched after Thursday’s deadline passed.

Journalist Alan Nixon claimed in mid-January that Blackburn Rovers were willing to let Gallagher leave the club before the 1st of February but no suitors matched the board’s asking price, with his market value set at £1.7 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Gallagher failed to secure a move to another team before the January window closed and will stay at Ewood Park until the end of the campaign, having now entered into the final six months of his contract with the Riversiders.

However, Nixon is now reporting that Blackburn Rovers are looking to extend the striker’s stay for another year and will trigger the one-year extension clause in his contract very soon.

Despite the side’s willingness to sell him, Gallagher has bagged four goals and registered three assists in 10 appearances in all competitions this term under Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Gallagher was completely out of favour under Tomasson heading into the January transfer window but has now become a key player for Blackburn Rovers, boasting seven goal contributions in just 10 matches.

Perhaps it would be wise for the club to activate his one-year extension clause as there will be many rival Championship teams keen to sign him for free at the end of the season should his contract run out in Lancashire.
