Plymouth Argyle are currently working against the deadline in order to complete the signing of Reading star Femi Azeez, according to a report from Football Insider.
The 22-year-old has starred for Reading this season. Having joined from Wealdstone in 2019, the winger has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in League One, registering four goals and six assists for the struggling side.
However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season during a time of financial uncertainty at the Madejski Stadium, Plymouth Argyle could be set to win the attacker’s signature before the window slams shut at 11pm.
Plymouth are in need of additions, having lost their loan stars this window, including Luke Cundle and Finn Azaz who are now with fellow Championship outfits Stoke City and Middlesbrough respectively.
Nevertheless, it has also been reported that a deal to secure the winger may run close to the deadline tonight, putting time against The Pilgrims as they look to secure Azeez’s signature.
Azeez would likely be viewed as a creative replacement for Finn Azaz, who was a crucial part of Argyle’s attack in the first half of the season as he bagged seven goals and recorded five assists for the newly-promoted side.
Furthermore, with the player’s contract set to expire in the summer during a time of financial adversity for the Berkshire club, Reading may be forced to cash in on the young star.
On the other end, Argyle have also rejected a late bid from Serie A giants Lazio for their top scorer Morgan Whittaker, with the Devon outfit fighting to keep their attacking stars for the remainder of the season.

With two star players having departed this window, it is no surprise to see that Ian Foster is keen to bolster Argyle’s forward line in a bid to ensure survival in the side’s first season back in the Championship. Azeez is a very exciting forward who fits Plymouth’s recruitment mould perfectly.
As for Reading, certainty off the pitch is a current priority and if this helps towards that then they may be forced into selling their star players which is a very difficult situation to be in as the club fights for survival.
