New Derby County Midfielder Looking To Repay Manager’s Faith

In his first interview with the club, new signing Ebou Adams has spoken about his reasoning for joining Derby County, and sends a special message to manager Paul Warne.

Adams was unveiled on Wednesday as Derby County’s latest signing, joining the club on loan from Cardiff City until the end of the season. His signing represents a good piece of business by the club, as they look to achieve promotion to the Championship this season.

With 125 EFL appearances to his name, as well as 12 appearances at an international level for Gambia, Adams brings a wealth of experience to the club, which could well help in the Rams’ push for promotion this season.

Currently sat in fourth, yet just four points off of table-toppers Portsmouth and only one point off of Bolton Wanderers in second, automatic promotion is well in the their reach this season. January has been all about strengthening for the club in the hope to dislodge the top two from their position.

The signing of Adams further illustrates that idea and the central-midfielder could play a significant role in helping the Rams achieve their ambitions.

Since joining Cardiff, times have been rather tough for the 28-year-old, who would miss the entirety of last season having suffered an injury in pre-season. Minutes have been very much limited this year, with just 11 Championship appearances and gaining more game time was no doubt a factor in the move.

Adams is looking to hit the ground running with the League One outfit and in an interview with club media, the midfielder stated that he knew a move was coming this window.

“I’ve known for a good couple of months. I was aware of it (Derby’s interest) strongly before I travelled to the Africa Cup of Nations and after I’ve come back, I thought it was a good opportunity to play for a club in the position that they are now.

“I don’t think Derby County should be in that position, so hopefully I can help push the club to where they belong.”

The 28-year-old also wanted to thank Paul Warne for putting his faith in him.

“I just want to repay him and repay his faith for bringing me here. It’s an opportunity for me to make a mark. I’ve had a tough year and I want to show him and show the fans what I can do.”

Writer’s View

Adams could be the type of player that Derby have been missing this season and he brings quality to the midfield. Although he has struggled for both fitness as well as regular minutes in the last year, he is still more than worth his place in a League One side.

It looks unlikely that he’ll be the last signing for Derby this window, who will be looking to continue to improve in order to get back into the Championship.

Although the teams around them are also improving, Paul Warne’s men have been on a good run of form recently, and will be looking to move into the top two with a win over Charlton Athletic on Saturday, a game where we could well see Adams make his debut.
