Swansea City In Battle With Rivals Over Midfield Starlet

Swansea City are weighing up a bid for 20-year-old midfielder Tochi Chukwuani ahead of deadline day, but faces stiff competition from a rival club.

Playing for Lyngby in the Danish Superligaen, The Dane has played 44 matches for his club since joining on a free transfer from FC Nordsjælland in March 2022.

According to bold.dk, several clubs are interested in a move for the midfielder, including bitter rivals Swansea and Cardiff City. Three-time Danish champions FC Midtjylland and Brondby IF are also exploring signing the youngster.

The Danish under-21 international is set to leave De kongeblå this summer when his contract expires, something which Lyngby has been attempting to rectify over the past few months. The Danish news outfit understands that no club have currently tabled an offer to the player or club.

Manager Nicas Kjeldsen told bold.dk that it was likely that Chukwuani was leaving the club in the near future, citing that both parties were too far apart in their values to strike a new contract deal.

The Swans have only made one signing this window under new boss Luke Williams, with Brazillian talent Ronald arriving from Gremio Anapolis.

Following their defeat to Leicester City last night, Swansea are 17th in the Championship table, three places behind rivals Cardiff. They welcome Plymouth Argyle to South Wales this weekend.

Lyngby are placed seventh in the Danish Superligaen, with their winter break coming to an end in the next few weeks. The club are seven points off the Championship play-off group with five regular season games remaining.

Writer’s View

Swansea City have not done much in terms of reinforcements this window, with the signing of Ronald a few days ago being their first piece of inbound business. The Swans have a fairly old age profile in their midfield department, so bringing in some young talent such as Tochi Chukwuani should be healthy for the club’s long-term future.

The 20-year-old looks destined to exit his current club in the near future, and Lyngby will probably opt to cash in on the midfielder. An opportunity to play in the Championship is an enticing offer, so should either Swansea or Cardiff opt to pursue a deal, Chukwuani should jump at the chance.
