Fleetwood Town striker Jack Marriott has been heavily linked with a move away from the club in the last week, and has seen a reduction in playing time as a result.
The striker would not play any sort of role in Fleetwood’s 2-2 draw with Wycombe on Saturday, and a move this January seems ever the more likely.
That draw against Wycombe was the first point in the Charlie Adam era, and the Cod Army’s first point in 2024. They may however be kicking themselves having gone 2-0 up and throwing that lead away with a first half red card for Promise Omochere also not helping the cause.
A win would’ve seen Fleetwood climb off the bottom of the table, leapfrogging Carlisle United in the process. They do stay at the bottom though and are now 11 points from safety.
The aforementioned Carlisle United were believed to be one of the clubs who were interested in Marriott. As direct rivals to the Blues in the relegation fight, it may seem unlikely that Fleetwood would sell, however Carlisle have already signed midfielder Josh Vela from Adam’s side this January.
A new update has emerged regarding Carlisle’s standpoint on Marriott, with manager Paul Simpson quashing all rumours of interest.
The 29-year-old already has history at the club, having made five appearances in 2014 on loan from Ipswich Town.
Speaking to the News & Star, Simpson stated that Carlisle were in for a striker, but not Marriott.
“It’s not one that we we’re in for at all.
“I don’t know what the situation is with him but we’re looking to try and get somebody who’s going to be a physical presence out there, and that’s not the mould of a Jack Marriott.
“Whether we get them remains to be seen, but we’re going to do everything we can before the deadline to try and get them.”
With the transfer window closing next Thursday, Marriott could still be on the move and it is unknown which other clubs are in for the striker. One thing that is known is that he will not be joining Carlisle this January.

With five goals in the league this season, Marriott is still an alright option to lead the line at a League One club however a move to the fourth tier could get the best out of him. There are plenty of clubs who need a proven goalscorer at the level and Marriott would be a good option.
Both Fleetwood and Carlisle look destined to play in League Two next season with 11 and 10 point gaps to safety respectively. As a result, Fleetwood may choose to keep hold of the striker with next year in mind.
