Peterborough United’s 0-0 draw with Lincoln City on Saturday had manager Darren Ferguson furious, and rightly so given the teams around them.
With Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers and Derby County all picking up three points, it was a bad day for Ferguson’s men, with their promotion ambitions taking a bit of a knock.
Although they may only be just three points off of the top of the table, it was a rather flat performance by Posh and one that the club will want to forget. The 0-0 draw was just the second time this season that Peterborough have failed to score and they were rather wasteful in front of goal.
Despite having the lions share of the possession, Ferguson’s men really struggled to create much in the game. Although plaudits can be given to the Lincoln defence, better is usually expected of Posh’s attack.
A point on the road is by no means a shocking result, far from it, however the result is made worse by the other three teams in the top four all winning.
As for Lincoln, their long winless run extends to nine games in the league and although they have improved in recent weeks to draw their last three, the lack of goals is a bit of a worry.
In his post-match interview with the Peterborough Telegraph, Ferguson was extremely disappointed with the performance and did not hold back from showing that disappointment.
“It’s very frustrating. It was a very disappointing performance. The first half was as bad as we’ve played for a long time.
“I don’t know why, the game developed as we felt it would. They just sat in to play on the counter attack. but we had no zip about us, no tempo. We were too slow and took many touches with people trying things in the middle of the pitch they didn’t need to do. I was really, really disappointed.
“Our away form has really improved in the last five matches, out of 15 we’ve taken 13 points, which is very good, but we can’t have any let up. I told the players that and it looked like it fell on deaf ears.”
“We were off it today. That was as poor as we’ve been for a long time.”
“I’ve let the players know that wasn’t good enough. I’ve let the players know I wasn’t happy at half time because it was a really soft performance.”

Ferguson was obviously quite heated at full-time and when the dust settles, he may look at the result as not as bad as first thought. That being said, it is still a disappointing result given all three teams around them picked up the maximum points available.
Peterborough welcome Wigan Athletic to the Weston Homes Stadium next Saturday in what could be perceived as a must-win game in order to get back on track in the league.
