Former Rotherham Utd & Cardiff City Man Moves To Relegation Haunted Club

Jordi Osei-Tutu, who spent time on loan in the EFL with Cardiff, Rotherham and Nottingham Forest, has today signed for Greek side PAS Giannina on loan.

PAS Giannina play in the Greek Super League, but they’re having a torrid time of it, struggling against relegation. Prior to beating Asteras on January 7th, they’d been without a victory in 15 matches, the longest barren spell of any side in the division.

That prompted them to move for 25-year-old Osei-Tutu, who spent time with Reading as a youth before a move to Arsenal. He’s been with Vfl Bochum in the 2.Bundesliga but is now preparing himself for a relegation battle with Giannina.

“I am excited to come to PAS Giannina and I am looking forward to getting on the field and helping the team to get out of the difficult situation in which it is located,” he told their official website.

Osei-Tutu, who plays as a right back, signed professional terms with Arsenal and enjoyed a loan spell with Bochum in the 2. Bundesliga in 2019/20. it was a successful spell, with him playing 22 times and scoring five goals. He returned to the UK with a Championship loan in his sights, joining Cardiff City. He only appeared seven times for them before a hamstring injury curtailed his spell there. Injuries hit his next loan spell at Nottingham Forest, where he played just five times in the Championship.

He next appeared on loan at Rotherham United in League One, where he enjoyed some success. He played 16 times, scoring once, as the Millers finished the season second in the division and won the EFL Trophy. He scored in the final, a dramatic goal six minutes into injury time, to break Sutton United’s hearts, with his side going on to win 4-2.

Arsenal released him in the summer of 2022, and he moved to Bochum, now a top-flight side. Last season, he appeared 20 times in the German top flight, predominately as a sub. This season, he hasn’t appeared at all, which has prompted a move to Greece in search of first-team action.

Writer’s View

We often hear of players going over the Germany and seeking their fortune – Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham are the obvious success stories.

However, Jordi Osei-Tutu demonstrates that it isn’t all plain sailing. The talented young player who appeared for Bochum on loan looks, at times, a little more world-weary and that’s restricted his appearances.

A spell in Greece, playing regular football, could be just what he needs to reignite what was once a promising career.
