Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has spoken highly of new signing Hakeeb Adelakun after the forward joined the club on Monday.
Adelakun joins the club from Lincoln City on a loan deal until the end of the season with his attacking threat expected to help Doncaster in front of goal as they look to ascend up the League Two table.
Having made 19 appearances in League One this season, as well as plenty of prior experience in the EFL, the signing of Adelakun seems rather an exciting one. The forward has scored three goals in League One for the Imps this season despite only making ten starts.
He has however somewhat fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks, especially with the recall of Freddie Draper from his loan at Walsall. The move looks like one in which will benefit all parties and one that gives Adelakun a better chance of more regular minutes.
Doncaster currently sit in 20th in the League Two table, and are beginning to find themselves at risk of being dragged into the relegation scrap. Although they do have a nine point buffer to the drop zone, McCann will be hoping that his side can distance the gap in the coming weeks.
Adelakun should aid that cause and he looks a great signing on paper which should bring plenty of excitement to the Eco-Power Stadium.
Speaking to club media after the announcement, McCann seemed thrilled with his latest addition.
“I feel like we haven’t got a player like Haks. What I mean by that is he’s really clever in terms of the positions he can pick up, he can slip people in, he can score goals himself.
“I think he’s a really good signing for us.
“He was part of that successful team with me at Hull and he fitted right into the group. He’ll do that here as well because of the characters that we have in the changing room and the people working hard. Haks is like that as well.”
“He’ll get fans off their seats with the way that he plays.”
“We’re really pleased with what we’ve got at the top end with the players that we’ve brought in this month adding to what we’ve already got in that area.”
The signing of Adelakun is a very strong one by Doncaster as he comes to the club with plenty of experience at a higher level. Improvements are needed across the pitch, but McCann is adding enough to the squad to keep them in the league this season.
Although it may not have gone their way so far, there is still plenty of football left to be played and a mid-table finish is still achievable.
