Charlton Athletic Star Linked With European Move

Charlton Athletic midfielder and club captain George Dobson has been linked with a move to Hungarian giants Fehervar.

It has now been revealed by journalist Richard Cawley of the South London Press that a bid has indeed been made for the 26-year-old and he could well leave the club this January.

With his contract expiring in the summer, it is unknown if Dobson wants to stay at the club and sign a new contract in the coming months. If the Addicks want to get any sort of fee for their captain, it appears that now is the time to sell.

Although Fehervar may have put a bid in, it is understood that terms are yet to have been agreed. Charlton will no doubt want a significant fee for the midfielder, yet may struggle to get their asking price given the current contract situation.

Dobson has been ever-present in the middle of the park this season, staring all 27 League One matches and captaining the side on each occasion. He has been one of very few shining lights in an Addicks side who are seriously struggling at the minute.

Manager Michael Appleton is very much in the hot seat with his side currently sat in 16th in the league, just seven points clear of the relegation places. Without a win in the league in their last nine matches, change is very much needed if they do not regain the winning thread very soon.

There have been some significant incomings for the London-based club this January such as the signing of Freddie Ladapo on loan from Ipswich Town, but also some notable outgoings including Corey Blackett-Taylor to Derby County.

Dobson may just join that outgoings list prior to the window closing, and given Charlton’s recent form, it may not come a surprise. Having spent heavily in recent windows, the Addicks may look to recoup some transfer funds rather than letting the Englishman walk on a free in the summer.

Writer’s View

Charlton are in a very strange position currently. On paper they have one of the strongest teams in the league with a budget to match the best in the division, yet they find themselves in 16th. A loss to Northampton on Tuesday night could bring Appleton’s tenure to a close and there may in turn be plenty of changes at the club.

Dobson might look to make a move now to guarantee his future, as its looking increasingly likely that it may not be with the Addicks.
