Millwall Transfer Target Set For Medical Today

Millwall are now set to have a medical for Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga, according to a report from Football Insider.

The Spurs defender was recalled from his loan spell at German club Augsburg today and is now set to spend the remainder of the campaign at Millwall after a deal has reportedly been agreed between the two clubs.

During his stint in Germany, the versatile defender failed to make any appearances in the Bundesliga. His parent club were unhappy at his lack of game time and decided a recall and a new loan were the best options for his development.

The 24-year-old first broke into the team under Jose Mourinho in 2020 but has failed to solidify his place in the starting eleven ever since and his contract is set to expire next summer.

The report from Football Insider states the player had two offers from other unnamed clubs in the Championship but chose to sign for the Lions. There is no known buy option in the deal at the moment, meaning it’s a straight loan transfer.

Knee problems have halted the player’s career for several seasons up until now and he will be hoping to finally put those behind him and finally play in a consistent run of matches.

The 24-year-old has missed 34 matches in total due to his recurring knee issues since the start of 2022, as per Transfermarkt, with the bulk of those coming at the beginning of this season.

Millwall are getting a player with 50 appearances for a Premier League club and Tanganga can play as both a centre-back and as a right-back, making him a versatile addition to the squad.

Manager Joe Edwards will be hoping he can aid his team in the second half of the campaign, as they push for a top-half finish.

A medical is set to take place today, and if all goes well, the defender could potentially be in the Lions squad to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Tanganga is an intelligent footballer with a decent amount of experience in the Premier League. He was highly rated before his injury issues halted him, and if he can stay fit, he will be a great asset for Edwards to have.

Augsburg struggled to find a place for him in the starting eleven, but the expectation is that it won’t be long until we see the 24-year-old making his debut for Millwall.
