Ipswich Town Transfer Pursuit “Not Moving Forward” Claims Journalist

Ipswich Town have been linked with a move for Blackburn Rovers centre-forward Sam Gallagher this past week but there has been an update on the side’s pursuit of their target.

Journalist Nick Mashiter reported that the Tractor Boys had submitted a £1 million offer for the former Southampton man which was followed up by a £1.5 million bid, but both were rejected by Blackburn.

Ipswich are not the only club reportedly looking to sign Gallagher this winter. The Northern Echo revealed last Wednesday that Sunderland added the 28-year-old to their list of potential transfer targets as Michael Beale’s side are hoping to sign a much-needed centre-forward before the January window slams shut in just over two weeks.

Additionally, journalist Alan Nixon also claimed that Blackburn were willing to let Gallagher leave the club to get him off the books but Ipswich are having an issue with the striker’s high wage demands. Gallagher is said to be on £14k-per-week, as per Capology.

Nevertheless, Nixon has provided a further update on the transfer saga. Replying to a follower on X, formerly known as Twitter, he reported that the deal is “not moving forward too fast”:

“It’s not moving forward too fast…don’t know how long Ipswich gives this before moving on.”

Gallagher has struggled for game time this season at Ewood Park and has entered into the final six years of his contract with the Riversiders. The frontman has made merely seven appearances in all competitions under Jon Dahl Tomasson, although he has still been averaging one goal every 135 minutes for the club.

Gallagher reportedly has a market value of £1.7 million, according to Transfermarkt. However, it seems strange that the club have reportedly rejected two bids from Ipswich Town close to that valuation when the player has clearly fallen down Tomasson’s pecking order.

Given Gallagher’s goal record isn’t the best, it seems unlikely that Ipswich will go much higher than has been offered, hence why the deal seems to have stalled. Perhaps Kieran McKenna’s side should seek alternatives.
