Sutton United Announce Double Loan Signing

Steve Morrison has continued his January recruitment as Sutton United have announced the double loan signings of Nino Adom-Malaki and Olly Sanderson, confirmed via a statement on the club’s official website.

The duo will be making their first EFL appearances at Gander Green Lane this season, joining for the remainder of the season from Millwall and Fulham respectively – with Steve Morrison making further use of the loan market having already added Charlie Lakin in his first window in charge.

Who are the duo?

Starting off, Sanderson has rose through the youth ranks at Premier League side Fulham, having been with the club since under-9 level. Also having a short but sweet loan spell with Oxford City scoring five goals in eight appearances in a season which saw the club win the National League South play-offs.

Adom-Malaki plays as a left-back and has been named in Millwall’s matchday squads multiple times, having also penned a long-term deal at The Den in October but is yet to make a senior appearance.

An Uphill Battle

It has been an extremely difficult first half of the season for Sutton United. After two seasons of solidifying themselves as a League Two club following their National League title victory in 2021 – club legend Matt Gray was dismissed as the club found themselves languishing at the foot of the League Two table.

With 19 points in 26 games, former Cardiff City manager Steve Morrison has taken the reigns in South London and has been attentive to add to his squad as the fight to remain in the football league continues.

With the club six points adrift of safety and 20 games to secure league football, new faces and ideas are certainly needed for the battle.

Writer’s View

Having enjoyed masses of success under Matt Gray’s old regime, it was made clear this season that the club needed new ideas. Steve Morrison certainly has a job on his hands but the reliance on the loan market this January may prove Sutton’s only avenue to add to their squad ahead of the dogfight.

Turning to young loan players is always a gamble; but with the right chance and surroundings, there is no reason that the duo cannot assists Sutton’s bid to secure EFL football for a fourth season running.
