Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut has stated that he is keen to sign an extended contract at the club, but has not yet started talks with the board over a new deal.
Bulut signed a one-year deal with The Bluebirds in the summer, taking over from former manager Sabri Lamouchi, who was one of four different managers in charge of the South Wales club last term. Since his arrival, Bulut has transformed Cardiff from a squad fighting a relegation battle to a team pushing for the playoff spots.
Despite the strong start from the former Fenerbahce manager, he has shared that he can’t make plans beyond the end of this season. Speaking to BBC Sport, the 48-year-old said he’s happy at the club and feels a strong connection with fans.
Bulut also said that the club has to continue progressing, a key factor that could depend on whether he remains at the Cardiff City Stadium or not.
“I’d like to continue to make changes here, work together. We can make many changes, add many things to the club. It’s not easy to change everything from today to tomorrow but we’ve changed many things from the start of the season until today.
“We can see also that’s not enough for me. We have to continue to work, we have to invest to bring in quality players and bring young players through the academy to make a really good structure. For that to work, we need a plan. To make a plan work, we need to work together”, added Bulut.
Cardiff sit ninth in the Championship table after Bulut’s first 26 games in charge, and with the January transfer window now open, the decisions made over the next month could have huge ramifications on the future of Bulut and the club’s position in the league.

Erol Bulut has worked wonders since taking over at Cardiff City in the summer. It hasn’t been perfect at all times, but the clear progression from last season is there to be seen. It would be a smart decision to get Bulut tied down to a new contract as soon as possible, to avoid potential interest from elsewhere.
A new deal will show long-term planning from the football club, an area that has been questioned by many in recent years. This will also give the Bluebirds a platform to progress on the foundations that Bulut has built since his appointment in the summer.
