Erol Bulut Says Two Cardiff City Signings Are ‘Close’

Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has revealed that the club is close to agreeing deals for two players to join the club.

When asked by BBC Sport about potential transfers, Bulut replied: “We are close to two players, yes, but we haven’t finalised anything. It can be quick, tomorrow, but it can also be next week that it is finished.”

The Bluebirds are keen to bolster their squad in this transfer window to help for their playoff push, with a specific interest in adding to the frontline before the deadline. The club have already seen loanee Iké Ugbo leave the club, with him being sent on loan to Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday, just days after The Owls beat Cardiff 4-0 in the FA Cup.

Bulut has shared that the club are interested in bringing Wales forward Kieffer Moore back to the club, with multiple clubs looking at signing the Bournemouth striker in this window. Speaking on the potential Moore signing, Bulut said:

“We want him [Moore], but two or three clubs are interested in him. It’s also a point from his club that they need to buy a striker. It takes time for them to let him go. And I lose time because of this. So I need options.”

They are also keeping tabs on one of Bulut’s former clubs Fenerbahce, with Bulut confirming interest in their £850k forward Umut Nayir“I have these options, Umut Nayir and one or two other players where I can immediately take one of them. If not then I have nothing”, said Bulut.

Another player who has been heavily linked with a move to South Wales is Greek midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas. Despite the rumours, the Cardiff boss has ruled the club out of signing the Trabzonspor player, stating that the club cannot compete financially with the other sides chasing his signature.

This transfer window could prove to be one of the biggest for Cardiff City, with the decisions made having potential consequences on whether the club can push themselves into the play-off places. The squad is missing a regular goalscoring forward, so if they can get these potential signings over the line, it would be big for them.

The return of Kieffer Moore makes sense for all involved, but with other clubs also pushing to get the signature of the Bournemouth striker, the signing of Umut Nayir seems more likely to happen.
