Journalist Ben Jacobs believes that it is possible for Leeds United to land long-term transfer target Ben Brereton Diaz this season after a disastrous first half of the campaign with Villarreal.
The Peacocks are flying at the moment. Daniel Farke’s side have 12 different goalscorers this season while four have six or more, including Joel Piroe and Crysencio Summerville who are locked on eight goals apiece.
Nevertheless, with the January transfer window quickly approaching, it has been reported that a number of clubs in the Championship are keeping tabs on Brereton Diaz’s situation in Spain, with Leeds United said to be one of them.
After a fruitful spell with Blackburn Rovers, where he scored 47 goals in 176 appearances, including 38 in his final 88 matches with the Riversiders, the attacker left for free and joined Europa League outfit Villarreal.
Unfortunately, his time with The Yellow Submarine hasn’t quite worked out as well as he’d hoped, having seen merely 220 minutes of La Liga action so far and failing to score a single goal in all competitions.
Villarreal are said to be open to loaning him out once the winter window opens and journalist Ben Jacobs believes there is a chance this deal will happen. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs said:
“One name to watch with Leeds, which I didn’t think I would be talking about in 2024 but could still be possible, is Ben Brereton Diaz. He is a long-standing Leeds target but obviously moved to Villarreal at the beginning of this season from Blackburn.
“It’s not entirely worked out at Villarreal so far, and he hasn’t scored for them despite coming off the back of 16 goals in all competitions for Blackburn and over 20 in the previous season.
