“Menacing” Leeds United Predicted To Beat Middlesbrough In Five-Goal Thriller

Sky Sports pundit and former Leeds United player David Prutton has backed his old side to continue piling pressure on the top two with a victory over Middlesbrough this weekend.

The Peacocks picked up an emphatic 3-1 win over Swansea City on Wednesday night to bounce back from last Friday’s disappointing 1-1 away draw against Rotherham United in the White Rose Derby.

Goals from Joel Piroe, Georginio Rutter and Daniel James sealed all three points for Daniel Farke’s side which was a big result in the end given Leicester City conceded a last-minute equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday and thus dropped two points.

Middlesbrough are the next team to come to the intimidating Elland Road and Michael Carrick’s men will be hoping to keep up their own promotion charge with a result in West Yorkshire.

The game against Boro signals the start of what is an incredibly difficult fixture list for Leeds before the end of the year, with massive games to come against Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion to close out 2023.

Nevertheless, Farke and his players will only be focusing on earning another three points at home to Middlesbrough this afternoon and former player David Prutton believes the Whites will.

Writing in his weekly column for Sky Sports, Prutton has claimed that Leeds United will come away with a 3-2 home victory and has explained the reasoning behind his thought process:

“Leeds bounced back brilliantly to beat Swansea in midweek. Much-needed after what happened at Rotherham in their previous game. They are looking up at the top two in menacing fashion.

“Middlesbrough took Preston apart on Tuesday night. They needed that after the frustration at Bristol City on Saturday. There will be goals here, but a home win.”

Writer’s View

There certainly will be goals in this one. Leeds United and Middlesbrough have two of the best attacks in the Championship this term so sparks may fly at Elland Road today.

However, given Leeds United are the stronger side and are the home team, they will be the favourites to win here, but won’t have it easy against the resiliency of Michael Carrick’s side.
