Bolton Wanderers Face Championship Opposition In Winger Pursuit

Bolton Wanderers are interested in Bromely winger Ben Krauhaus but face competition from clubs in the Championship, according to Team Talk.

The 19-year-old is a product of the academy set-up at Hayes Lane and has enjoyed loan spells with Cray Wanderers and Walton & Hersham. He made his National League debut less than a year ago, at Southend on Boxing Day, and has impressed ever since.

That form has caught the eye of a number of suitors, including Ian Evatt‘s Bolton. The Trotters have a B Team set up to smooth the transition from youth football into the first team, and Krauhaus would be ideal to step into that, preparing for a first-team spot. However, Welsh rivals Swansea and Cardiff are also thought to be in the hunt for the winger and Millwall, a move which wouldn’t mean major upheaval for the young player.

League One rivals Derby County are also credited with having watched Krauhaus, who has 20 National League starts to his name this season and two goals, along with Charlton, who are just eight miles away from his current club. It promises to be an interesting transfer window with so many teams keeping an eye on the wide man.

Andy Woodman’s Bromley are impressing in the National League this season. They’re hunting a spot in the Football League and are currently second, eight points behind leaders Chesterfield, having played two matches more.

As for Evatt’s Bolton, they’re pushing for promotion to the Championship, a level they dropped out of five years ago. It’s been a tough ride for them, including a spell in the basement division, but under the former National League winning manager, they’ve made progress every season. They’re currently second in the table, three points behind leaders Portsmouth, with a game in hand.

Krauhaus is hot property, but any suitor is buying potential, not the finished article. That’s why a move into League One might be a sensible option, as it would leave him closer to the first-team setup than somewhere like Swansea.

Bolton would be perfect. Their B Team setup means the pathway to the first team is smoother for talented players, and it is more akin to the reserve team matches of old, offering some competitive football with senior players coming back from injury.

However, it could be argued the 19-year-old would be better off staying put. He’s playing regularly in a good team, and if they make the play-offs and he does well this season, it will only help his development.
