Former Sunderland, Leeds United and England defender Micky Gray believes that Leicester City will run away with the league title this season after an excellent start to the campaign.
Enzo Maresca’s side are sitting top of the Championship this term, having picked up 39 points from 16 games so far, although Ipswich Town are level on points with the Foxes but have a worse goal difference.
Nevertheless, the former Premier League champions have gone through a blip in recent weeks, losing two consecutive games for the first time this season over the past fortnight with 1-0 defeats against promotion-chasers Leeds United and Middlesbrough.
However, Gray still believes that Leicester City are too strong to catch due to the sheer amount of quality in the squad. Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, the 49-year-old said:
“Well, If I’m brutally honest with you, I think Leicester are going to run away with it.
“They are the standout team this season, no question about it and they have Premier League experience and Premier League players.”
The Foxes have some very favourable fixtures after the international break in the run-up to Christmas, facing the likes of Watford, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle and Rotherham United before taking on second-place Ipswich on Boxing Day which could consolidate the side’s lead at the summit of the table.
Loanee Yunus Akgun could return following the international period, although centre-back Callum Doyle is not set to be back in action until the end of January.

Given Leeds United are just eight points off the top and Ipswich Town are merely four goals behind Leicester City, it’s difficult to say for sure that Maresca’s side will run away with the title.
Back-to-back defeats for the Foxes have brought the team down to earth but they certainly won’t want to make a habit of losing games considering Leeds and Southampton’s form at the moment.
